  • CLEAN HEART MONDAY

    Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10 NIV)

    Oh God, create in me a pure heart …

    * A heart that won’t run with lust after physical pleasure.
    * A heart that obediently refuses what you’ve fenced away as sin.
    * A heart of love that never insists on its own way. (1 John 2:16)

    Oh God, create in me a pure heart …

    * A heart that knows no greed when it looks upon worldly treasures.
    * A heart that thinks of others, and not itself.
    * A heart that argues for love instead of fairness.

    Oh God, create in me a pure heart …

    * A heart that never boasts about what it has or what its done.
    * A heart that walks humbly, not trying to appear more important than it is.
    * A heart that takes no pride in the flesh.

    Oh God, create in me a pure heart …

    * A heart that chases after you.
    * A heart that looks to you for its provision.
    * A heart that trusts you are redemptively at work in others.
    * A heart that does not manipulate people or circumstances.
    * A heart that looks upon the things above and not the things below.

    Heavenly Father, renew a steadfast spirit within me …

    * A spirit committed wholly and solely to you.
    * A spirit that is not double-minded.
    * A spirit that is focused, and single-minded on your purpose.
    * A spirit resolved to know Christ and Christ alone.

  • GLORIOUS IN OUR EYES

    “All that may be known of God for our salvation, especially his wisdom, love, goodness, grace and mercy on which the life of a soul depends, are represented to us in all their splendour in and through Christ. No wonder then that Christ is glorious in the eyes of believers!”

    - John Owen, The Glory of Christ (Carlisle, Pa.: Banner of Truth Trust, 1994), 20.

  • Consecration and Worship

    My God, I feel it is heaven to please Thee, and to be what Thou wouldst have me be. O that I were holy as Thou art holy, pure as Christ is pure, perfect as Thy Spirit is perfect! These, I feel, are the best commands in Thy Book, and shall I break them? must I break them? am I under such a necessity as long as I live here?

    Woe, woe is me that I am a sinner, that I grieve this blessed God, who is infinite in goodness and grace! O if He would punish me for my sins, it would not would my heart so deep to offend Him; But though I sin continually, He continually repeats His kindness to me.

    At times I feel I could bear any suffering, but how can I dishonour this glorious God? What shall I do to glorify and worship this best of beings? O that I could consecrate my soul and body to His service, without restraint, for ever! O that I could give myself up to Him, so as never more to attempt to be my own! or have any will or affections that are not perfectly conformed to His will and His love! But, alas, I cannot live and not sin.

    O may angels glorify Him incessantly, and, if possible, prostrate themselves lower before the blessed King of heaven! I long to bear a part with them in ceaseless praise; but when I have done all I can to eternity I shall not be able to offer more than a small fraction of the homage that the glorious God deserves. Give me a heart full of divine, heavenly love.

  • YOU WHO THINK OF SIN BUT LIGHTLY

    I am not one who usually blogs on the Lord’s Day….but we sang this hymn this morning and it is awesome…..especially the third verse…..

    Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted
    By: Thomas Kelly

    Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
    See him dying on the tree!
    This is Christ, by man rejected;
    Here, my soul, your Savior see.
    He’s the long expected prophet,
    David’s son, yet David’s Lord.
    Proofs I see sufficient of it:
    He’s the true and faithful Word.

    Tell me, all who hear him groaning,
    Was there ever grief like this?
    Friends through fear his cause disowning,
    Foes insulting his distress;
    Many hands were raised to wound him,
    None would intervene to save;
    But the deepest stroke that pierced him
    Was the stroke that justice gave.

    You who think of sin but lightly
    Nor suppose the evil great
    Here may view its nature rightly,
    Here its guilt may estimate.
    Mark the sacrifice appointed;
    See who bears the awful load;
    It’s the Word, the Lord’s Anointed,
    Son of Man and son of God.

    Here we have a firm foundation;
    Here the refuge of the lost;
    Christ, the rock of our salvation,
    His the name of which we boast.
    Lamb of God, for sinners wounded,
    Sacrifice to cancel guilt!
    None shall ever be confounded
    Who on him their hope have built.

  • HOLD ON TO YOUR CROWN

    Revelation 3:11, "Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou
    hast, that no man take thy crown."

    When God appeared to Moses as I AM THAT I AM out in the backside of
    the desert, He commissioned him to deliver the Hebrews from their
    slavery in Egypt. But Moses was fearful to take on such a task. He
    had no strength of his own to accomplish it. God then said to him,
    "What is that in thine hand, Moses?" (Exodus 4:2).

    What was in his hand? A shepherd's rod. Nothing fancy. Nothing
    powerful. Just a simple rod he used each day to guide, prod and
    protect his flock. God took that plain shepherd's rod and made it a
    mighty weapon in Moses' hand. Whenever he stretched forth the rod
    mighty miracles happened. It released the plagues upon the
    Egyptians. It showed forth God's mighty power.

    Sometimes you wonder what you are doing in your home. Your friends
    have high-powered careers and are raking in the money. You are
    trying to make ends meet from day to day. Your family remind you
    that you are wasting your life and your education.

    But what is in your hand? It is the rod of motherhood. It may look
    insignificant, as Moses' rod did, but it wields a mighty power.
    Motherhood is the most powerful career in the nation. As a mother,
    you determine the course of the nation. You are in God's hands
    preparing your children for the purposes God has laid out for them
    before the foundation of the world. This is a top notch job. It is
    high powered!

    Mothering is your crown. It has been invested in you by God
    himself. It is your anointing of womanhood. It is your authority.
    Do not take off your beautiful crown of motherhood to allow someone
    else to mother the children God has given you. Never let your
    crown go. Hold on to it. Lift your head high and be proud of your
    divine calling.

    You may be going through circumstances that cause you to feel like
    giving up. You feel an utter failure. This mothering business is
    not working out. Your children are giving you heartache. Do not
    give up. Do not take off your crown. Rise up in the anointing and
    authority that God has given you as a mother. Do not let your
    circumstances rob you of your crown.

    Do not let other people rob you either. Do you notice that this
    Scripture says that man will try to take it from you? Those who are
    ignorant of God's heart for children will speak negative things
    into your life. Those who are deceived by this world's philosophy
    will try to lure you away from your high calling. Do not be swayed
    by what people say. Do not let them take your crown. Hold on to it
    tightly.

    Do not for a moment be intimidated by your antagonists!
    (Philippians 1:28)

  • MERCY FOR MONDAY

    “When I come to the Lord after I’ve blown it, I’ve only one
    argument to make. It’s not the argument of the difficulty of the
    environment that I am in. It’s not the argument of the difficult people
    that I’m near. It’s not the argument of good intentions that were
    thwarted in some way.

    I come to the Lord with only one appeal; his mercy. I’ve no other
    defense. I’ve no other standing. I’ve no other hope. I can’t escape the
    reality of my biggest problem; me! So I appeal to the one thing in my
    life that’s sure and will never fail. I appeal to the one thing that
    guaranteed not only my acceptance with God, but the hope of new
    beginnings and fresh starts. I appeal on the basis of the greatest gift
    I ever have or ever will be given.

    I leave the courtroom of my own defense, I come out of hiding and I
    admit who I am. But I’m not afraid, because I’ve been personally and
    eternally blessed. Because of what Jesus has done, God looks on me with
    mercy. It’s my only appeal, it’s the source of my hope, it’s my life.
    Mercy, mercy me!”
